17 August: Indonesia celebrates its independence.
But what role did Islam actually play in this history?
We often hear about well-known Indonesian leaders, but the role of Islamic scholars and heroes in the resistance against colonialism often remains underexposed. What influence did Islamic ideas and scholars have on the struggle for independence?
During this interactive Nongkrong session, researcher Ja’far Al-Habshi takes us through this overlooked chapter of Indonesian history. Host Nasrullah Hosen guides the evening, in which we listen, discuss and reflect together.
A programme by PPME Den Haag in collaboration with Al Fath Instituut.
